Once every two years, the WFD foundation organises the Frisian Draughts World Championship. One time, a tournament is played with 16 players who have managed to qualify through various tournaments.
The next world championship consists of a match of 11 games in which the defending champion is challenged. This challenger has won the previous Grandmaster tournament.
This world championship was held for the first time in 2018 and the subsequent match was held in 2021.
The next 16-player world championship is scheduled to be held in summer 2024.
