FRISIAN DRAUGHTS CLASSIC
The Fryslân Open is not only the largest international Frisian Draughts tournament in the draughts calendar, with a total prize money of €6,400, this time the tournament also offers players the opportunity to qualify for the next Frisian Draughts World Championships, to be held in August 2024.
Who can participate? Participation is possible for anyone who registers and pays the registration fee before 10 February 2024. The entry fee is €80 for all parts of the tournament, including coffee, tea and lunch. For players who want to spend the night in Franeker, the registration fee is € 120, including accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and tea.
Who can qualify for the Frisian Draughts World Championships? These are the eight highest placed players in the final results. If there is someone who already qualified before, the next person in the rankings will also be qualified. If the number of points is equal, a barrage decides.
FRYSK!
The Fryslân Open concludes with the annual FRYSK! World Championships, or Frisian Draughts with five pieces per player. The candidates for the ‘big’ world championships in August automatically qualify for this world championships as well.
Others can qualify by way of a special qualifying tournament on Saturday 24 February 2024. Those who only want to participate in this qualifying tournament (and possibly the FRYSK! World Championships on 25 February) can register until the start of the tournament by paying the registration fee of € 10. Please note: this is only possible for players who have previously registered (free of charge) as a WFD competitive player via Team WFD on Lidraughts.
