Walinga on the verge of victory

Marten Walinga scored a resounding victory over his challenger Folkert Groenveld in the seventh game in the match for the Frisian Draughts 2021 World championships. Walinga now only needs half a point to retain his world title. The current score is 5½ - 1½. The chance that the six mark point will be passed tomorrow is now quite high. The opening was the same as the first match which gave Folkert the advantage at the time. With the fifth move Walinga changed tack. In an even contest, Walinga slowly started to gain an advantage after Groenveld’s 15th move. Groenveld’s right flank became top heavy. In the end, Walinga was threatening to simply breach Groenveld’s left flank. Before he could execute this, Folkert made the final mistake with his 26th move which Walinga finished off with a devastating combination to king’s row.
