On the final day of the African Open, it became clear that Frisian draughts players will have to take African players seriously in the future. Jean Marc Ndjofang made things particularly difficult for Jan van Dijk in the middle game of the final match in the Grandmasters. In the end, Van Dijk managed to escape with a draw because Ndjofang overlooked an endgame motif, but that won't happen to him again! Jan van Dijk, from Frisia, won the tournament, and Jean Marc Ndjofang became the first official African Frisian Draughts Champion. New player Guy Tatou also played surprisingly well against Aleksej Domchev. The latter had a better position, but Tatou managed to defend himself and it took until the last minute before Domchev was able to secure the win.
In the Masters, Simon Eyock was significantly better against Yves Constang Mouleb, but he lost the game due to a blunder. On the other board, Cédric Djoko, after initially having the advantage, gave the win to Stéphane Nkodo by creating too many gaps in his position. Nkodo won the Masters final with no fewer than three victories.
After these conclusions, there was a bonus open tournament FRYSK! (Frisian Draughts with 5 pieces per player), in which 28 players participated. They played 7 rounds according to the Swiss system. Here, a similar picture emerged: Aleksej Domchev won the tournament convincingly with 6.5 points, but the new player Sayouba Kiema from Burkina Faso managed to take second place with only half a point less. Raimonds Vipulis and Jean Marc Ndjofang shared third place.
Today, the final event will be a Frisian Draughts tournament for women.
